About Us

We drive practical skill-based workshops and professional development opportunities beyond the bench!

TaSC is an interest group composed of trainees at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. Members may include (but are not necessarily limited to) graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, medical students, medical fellows, and health professions students currently at the university. In August 2023 we united 3 UTSW  organizations with a central teaching and science communication mission (Science, Policy, Education, and Communication (SPEaC), Three Minute-Thesis (3MT), and Future Leaders in Pedagogy (FLiP)) to form TaSC.

We have many goals as a group, as teaching and science communication are vast disciplines yet are essential skills vital for success as scientist, both in an academic and non-academic setting. We aim to provide career development opportunities for UT Southwestern trainees, technicians, and staff who are eager expand their skills in teaching and effective communication, to host seminar series in collaboration with the graduate school and nano-course workshops on science communication, and to connect and promote links with local universities and museums to promote our communities to exercise our enthusiasm for science. Overall, we aim to provide an array of activities that will benefit TaSC members, the UT Southwestern community, the larger Dallas community, and the scientific profession as a whole.

Mission Statement

Helping You Exceed Expectations

The Teaching and Science Communication (TaSC) Club was formed to provide a united link for trainees to acquire and apply skills in teaching and science communication. Our goals are to provide career development opportunities through service to our community.

We aim to connect scientists with opportunities to develop their pedagogical and science communication skill set through competitions, workshops, discussion panels, mock lectures, networking events and other activities that promote and support these goals.

Ultimately, we want to build a supportive environment in TaSC during our common search for career advancement and job placement.
